那些斑鳩（doves）不管在哪裡築巢都真的很辛苦，但寒鴉（jackdaws）似乎很喜歡 AshHollow，A&A 對此可說是再清楚不過。

The doves are really up against it, wherever they nest, but the jackdaws seem to like AshHollow, as A&A know only too well.

很高興又看到獾（badger）了。牠們最近不太需要那個池塘（pond），現在天氣比較涼，覓食（foraging）應該也更容易了。

Nice to see a badger again. They haven’t needed the pond much recently, now it’s cooler and foraging must be better.

Sarah 先前提到，原鴿（stock doves）一年最多可繁殖 4 窩（broods），而且牠們的繁殖季（breeding season）要到 10 月才結束，所以是有可能的。如果不是今年，那就可能是明年年初。

昨天鴿子離開巢時，被寒鴉（Jackdaws）偷走了。留下的只有破掉的空殼。嗯，只剩一片殼。

Jackdaws got them when the doves were out of the nest yesterday. Broken empty shells are left. Well, one shell.

Mr 和 Mrs 鴿子的蛋怎麼了？🥚 是被寒鴉（Jackdaws）弄走了，還是在打鬥中打破了？我有看到紅隼（kestrel）和寒鴉（jackdaws）。

話雖如此（Having said all of that），你說得對，我們無法從質性上（qualitatively）真正理解牠們感受了什麼、或感受有多強；我想我們都同意，這是一個很令人難過的情況。😔

Having said all of that, you're right that we can't qualitatively understand what they feel or how strongly, and I think we all agree it's a sad situation 😔

至於自傳式記憶（autobiographical memory），對人類來說，失去可能會成為某人生命故事與自我認同的一部分，但鴿子的記憶與自我感（sense of self）就比較有限。

for autobiographical memory, for a human loss can be part of someone's life story and identity, but a dove has more limited memory and sense of self.

一輩子都會記得自己的孩子。鴿子（dove）只會在短時間內撫育幼鳥（raise their young），之後就道別（say goodbye），再開始下一窩（clutch）。鴿子也沒有相同的……能力。

memory of their children for the rest of their lives. A dove will raise their young for a short period of time and then say goodbye and have another clutch. A dove also doesn't have the same capacity

牠們又沒有社群媒體（social media）和心理健康 App（mental health apps），那我們憑什麼去評斷（judge）牠們有多少悲傷（grief）或快樂（happiness）呢？

但那你也不能假設（assume）牠們是因為同樣的原因而難過。

她只是還不明白，仍在依照本能（instincts）行動。幸好牠們不會像人類那樣去經歷或記住這件事，但想到她還在期待牠們孵化，還是很令人難過。

She just doesn't understand and is following her instincts. Thankfully they won't experience or remember it the same way a human would, but it's still sad to think she's still expecting them to hatch

還是牠們其實知道蛋已經沒了，但這是她的療癒（healing process）與消化（processing it）方式呢？

鴿子（pigeons）和斑鳩／鳩鴿（doves）會用嗉囊乳（crop milk）餵雛鳥，但一次只夠產出兩隻的量，所以牠們通常一次下兩顆蛋，全年可有 2–4 窩（broods），而且繁殖季也比較長（March to Oct，3 月到 10 月）。

Pigeons and doves feed their chicks crop milk but can only produce enough for two so they lay two eggs at a time and have 2-4 broods and a longer breeding season (March to Oct)

很遺憾，這些鴿子大概還沒發現牠們的蛋已經被破壞了，因為只有一些很小的啄洞（peck holes）。牠們可能還會待在那裡，直到發現根本沒有小鳥孵出來（nothing’s hatching）。

It’s unfortunate the doves probably don’t realize their eggs were destroyed since it’s must small peck holes. They’ll probably just stay there til they realize nothings hatching

確實是。鴿子（doves）在守護巢（nests）時很吃力，這很合理。貓頭鷹（owls）和紅隼（kestrels）也曾被 JDs 搶走蛋（lost eggs to），而且牠們都是很可怕的猛禽（Birds of prey）！

@jOgd indeed pigeons and doves often have very sparse nests. In UK blackbirds often make nests in silly places. Maybe we should all donate for REF to provide some shoe box sized nests lol.
